| ABOUT HEIRLOOMSLOST.COM |
|
|
This is a free site. We now have over 1600 items and 4400 surnames in our database. Please post to the
want list or sale/show list as many times as you wish during your visit.
People with an interest in genealogy are always thrilled to own an heirloom
from their family's past. It could be great-grandmother's bible or a postcard from a trip to Niagra Falls. One of
our ancestors, a missionary in China in the 1870's, sent a telegram home. It might only sell for five dollars but it is
priceless to us.
The goal of HeirloomsLost is to reunite family mementos of the past with the present generation. The chance of
placing a letter from an antique shop in Oregon with its proper family in Kentucky might seem nearly impossible.
However, thanks to the Internet and the search capabilities of our site, with your help, we can make this happen
and have fun in the process.

HeirloomsLost is designed to put people directly in touch with one another regarding lost family treasures. With
your help the database will grow and expand the opportunity for people to connect with heirlooms from their family's
past. By posting to the want list or posting to the sale list you are supporting the expansion of our database
and helping others. Here's how it works:
HeirloomsLost has two post lists. One is a post to the sale/show list for items you would like to sell or let
others know you possess. The other is a post to the want list which gives you the opportunity to post for items
you are looking for that are traceable to a specific family name, time period and/or location.
Post to the Want List
There are only four required fields on the Post to the Want List in order for it to
function. Completing the additional fields will enhance the database. By posting
to the want list you create a time frame around the family name in a given geographical area. You can post as many times as you want and only your e-mail address is public.
Post to the Sale/List
There are only four required fields on the Post to the Sale List in order for it to
function. Completing the additional fields will enhance the database. By posting
to the sale list you post a specific time on the item you are listing. Only your e-mail address is public.
Edits
If you want to edit a post you have three choices:
- Submit a new post and email us the old post number and we will delete it for you.
- Email us with the post number and the change you want to make and we will edit it for you.
- Email us with any additional help you need in posting.
HeirloomsLost provides a data base that can be searched in several different ways.
From the home page there are four search opportunities.
Quick Family Search
Type in a family name or search it without a family name and it will pull up all
the postings in either the sale/show list or the want list. If you don't see the name you searched for
in the short list return, expand it to the detailed post and you will see it under "other names". You may also
search by a single letter and it will pull all the posts with that letter.
Quick State Search
Select a state in which you have an interest. You may search either the sale/show
list or the want list. If you select Any State/Non US, the database will search
postings from other countries.
Advanced Search - Sale/Show List
You can fill in any combination of fields you would like to search. The more
fields utilized the narrower the search becomes. You may search this database by
email address, post ID number, family name, ethnicity, location and item type.
Advanced Search - Want List
You can fill in any combination of fields you would like to search. The more
fields utilized the narrower the search becomes. You may search this database by
email address, post ID number, family name, ethnicity, location and item type.
